The Foundation
Overview
Based at the Welfare Hall in Ystradgynlais, the Foundation was established in 2002 and houses a collection of Josef Herman original drawings, paintings and prints.
Ystradgynlais provided a welcoming and inspiring home for Herman, a refugee who had spent six unsettled years moving across Europe. The special connection between the artist and the town continues today through the work of the Foundation.
Mission
The Josef Herman Art Foundation Cymru is dedicated to promoting an appreciation of the life and work of the Polish artist, Josef Herman and in his name fostering a wider participation in the arts and an awareness of human rights. This is done through our annual schools project, exhibitions, events, lectures, community engagement and support for an annual prize at the National Eisteddfod of Wales.
