What is Arts on a Postcard?    It’s a project organised by Josef Herman Foundation to support Mind Cymru.  The social isolation created by lockdown is having a profound impact on mental health, so let’s do something positive that everyone can take part in and let the arts support mental health.

Who can join in?  Calling all artists, amateur artists, all creative practitioners, celebrities and anyone who wants to support this important cause.

How to contribute?  Send in a postcard (A5 or A6 size) with your original creative response….it could be a painting, drawing, collage, photography, a poem, creative writing or any other media….. as long as it’s your original work and can fit into an envelope for posting.

Where do I send it? / Ble ddyid ei bostio?

Following on from the very successful Josef Herman Art Foundation Cymru charity arts auction in December quite a few artists have contacted us to see if we can do anything to support mental health issues during the pandemic. With social isolation and the current lockdown continuing, we thought that something that everybody can take part in is to send us a piece of original Art on a Postcard. We will then develop a page on our Instagram and other social media showing all contributions. Supporters could then take part in an arts lottery and for a contribution of £25 (or whatever you can give), receive a postcard.

We are hoping that a wide range of artists, creative practitioners and other contributors will take part by submitting a postcard. All proceeds will go to Mind’s Coronavirus National Appeal, which will in turn be helping to provide life-saving information and advice for everyone experiencing a mental health problem at a time when it is needed the most.

Postcards can be up to A5 (148 x 210mm) or A6 (105 x 148mm) sized and unframed. All you need to do is to produce a piece of artwork or creative response that is able to fit into standard C5 envelope and posted as a standard letter.

Stick it in an envelope and send it to us at JHF, c/o Oak Villa, off
Amman Rd, Lower Brynamman, Ammanford SA18 1SN.

We will leave it up to you what subject or topic to choose and what medium to use. You can submit paintings, drawings, cartoons, collages, photographs and prints, or a process of your own choice, providing that they are original works by you. Please send us your artwork on postcards before 21st June. You can also submit more than one if you like. We ask that you sign and print your name on the reverse of the postcard, title it if appropriate, and you can also put a message for the lucky supporter if you so wish.

In order to add a little bit of excitement to the project, we will display the work on our Instagram page and we will only list the artwork, not the artist or participant, which will be listed
separately. Supporters will not know which artwork they will receive until they receive your postcard at the end of the project. All supporters will receive a postcard so no one will miss out and we can assure you that your artwork will find a good home!

All money raised will go to supporting Mind’s Coronavirus National Appeal, and the project will be widely advertised by both the Josef Herman Foundation and by Mind. We will also publish the list of
all participating artists and creative contributors.

If you need more information about the Arts on a Postcard Project, please contact Pete Bryan (trustee and treasurer) at: info@josefhermanfoundation.org  or ring 01269 826942 and we will send you more information. We hope that you will be able to support this new and innovative programme which will help make sure everyone experiencing a mental health problem gets support, protection and respect in these difficult times.
